Ram Leela
Ganesh is the presiding deity of the city of Pune and numerous temples dedicated to him dot the city. During the Ganesh Festival, held sometime in September or October, practically every road and street is dotted with at least one idol of the elephant-headed god. Ganesh mandals - groups of people who manage the affair - are present in every locality and are responsible for everything from arranging for the location to setting up the makeshift tents and from the daily upkeep of the idol to funds management. This idol, installed by the Somwar Peth Gosavipura Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, depicts the story of the return of Ram from fourteen years of exile. On his arrival, he first went to meet his younger brother, Bharat who was leading a life of self-imposed exile while his elder brother was away.
