Birds on a Wire
When I asked my wife why these birds sitting on the wire didn't get their goose cooked, she shrugged it off as one of those inane questions that a child might ask. I made a mental note to look up the answer on the internet and took a picture as a reminder. Coming to the answer, birds don't get electrocuted because while they're perched on a wire, there is nowhere for the current to flow through out of their body to complete a circuit. But if the bird were to touch the transformer accidently, boom! It's lights out for the neighbourhood and the bird. Read more about this phenomenon at http://www.how-come.net/birdsonwires.html.
