The Iron Fort — Archived from December 2008
Pune's cultural heritage stretches far beyond the limits of the city. Various forts dot the landscape - ranging from Sinhagadh, an arms reach away from the city, to Shivneri (known as the birthplace of Shivaji) and Pratapgadh. These places are testimony to some of the great events which shaped the history of the region as well as India. And it is heartening to know that many people, especially native Maharashtrians, value the place these spots occupy in history and take active measures in securing their upkeep.
Lohagadh Fort, the narrow strip of land in the left in the picture above, is a popular destination amongst trekkers, probably due to its relative proximity to Pune and easy access path. The added attraction of an opportunity to visit Visapur Fort and Bhaja Caves nearby add to the attraction.
