Kusum Sarovar I — Archived from January 2008
The average tourist wants to go to places where there are no tourists.
- Sam Ewing There is a deep thrill in finding places where nobody every goes. And contrary to popular belief, there are several such places just waiting to be found. When we set off on our trip to Mathura last month, we made an effort to research the city before leaving. And the payoff was worth it. Mathura is located in what is known as Braj and is reknown for its numerous temples. But there has to be something more interesting, we figured. After all, great kings had ruled over this land over the past thousand years and they were sure to have left behind a rich legacy. Kusum Sarovar, one such legacy, was built by kings of the kingdom of Bharatpur during the 18th century. Although well maintained by the ASI, it is mostly ignored by the pilgrims who visit this area. Thankfully, that was just what we were hoping for. More photographs from our trip are available in the Gallery.
