There's a satisfying feeling around creating art. Music, drawing, sculpture, weaving, photography (but of course!). I think that the time to create art and the ability to appreciate it is what makes human civilisations thrive. Over history we notice that the richest kingdoms were usually the ones that left a legacy of their artistic skills.
That is not to say that art is responsible for their growth. On the contarary, it is because they had grown and didn't have to worry about daily needs all the time that they had time for art. This in turn allowed the citizens to feel better about themselves, and grow further. And all that was just a small step that led to our opulent times.
